Chelsea fans amazed by Andreas Christensen performance against Atletico Madrid

Chelsea recorded a memorable victory over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter picked out defender Andreas Christensen as a huge bright spark from the game.

The Blues put in an excellent European performance to beat La Liga leaders Atletico 1-0 in the first leg of a Champions League last 16 tie.

Despite the fact the match was played at a neutral venue in Bucharest, Thomas Tuchel’s side earned a vital away goal to take back to Stamford Bridge in the second leg.

Olivier Giroud was the match-winner with a stunning overhead kick in the second half, albeit there was a long pause before VAR confirmed the goal was legal.

Chelsea’s domestic form has been mixed this season, but surely they will take huge confidence from beating the team sat top of the Spanish top flight.

It was a match that the Premier League team dominated the ball for large parts and they managed to withstand a small amount of pressure late on by Atletico.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media picked out Christensen as a real positive in the backline.

The 24-year-old was recalled to the starting XI for the match in the heart of a back three and he had a fairly comfortable night against Luis Suarez.

With Thiago Silva sidelined right now at Chelsea, Christensen has shown he’s a great option in reserve and perhaps he should be looking to nail down a regular starting role.
