Chelsea fans hail “special” defender after performance against Real Madrid

Chelsea scored a vital away goal on Tuesday night during their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out Antonio Rudiger as one huge standout from the result.

The Blues delivered an eye-catching performance in Spain in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final tie.

Thomas Tuchel’s side, who more than held their own against giants Madrid, will go back to Stamford Bridge next week with a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

Christian Pulisic scored the away goal in the 14th minute, as he showed incredibly quick feet to take the ball around goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois before smashing into the net.

However, dangerous centre-forward Karim Benzema scored an equaliser just shy of the half hour mark with a superb volley after he set himself up in the box.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media credited Rudiger for his individual efforts on the Champions League stage, which included assisting the Pulisic goal with a deft through ball chipped over the top.

The 28-year-old German centre-half continued on the left of a back three, where he showed great pace and power to nullify the opposition.

His revival since Tuchel has taken charge has been one of the major talking points in recent months.

Here are some Blues fans waxing lyrical about Rudiger:
