Chelsea suffered a crushing defeat at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did at least find some positivity from the performance of Mateo Kovacic.

The Blues now face an uphill task to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League, after they were beaten by German leaders Bayern.

Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 3-0 at Stamford Bridge in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie and that’s a big aggregate score to try overturn for the second leg in Germany.

The teams were locked together at 0-0 going into half-time and Chelsea did threaten at times going forward, but in the end couldn’t keep out an eye-catching opposition with plenty of pace and precision.

Serge Gnabry scored a quick-fire double at the beginning of the second-half, before Robert Lewandowski netted a third away goal.

Jorginho will be suspended for the second leg, while Marcos Alonso was shown a red card on Tuesday night to mean he will be unavailable too.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media did feel that Kovacic could hold his head up high despite ending up on the losing side and he looked a class act in the midfield.

The 25-year-old central midfielder was extremely positive in possession with forward passes and dribbles, but it was a difficult match for the hosts against a team that should have big aspirations of winning the tournament.
