Chelsea were knocked out of the Champions League in the round of 16 on Saturday night – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did find a positive from the display of youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi.

With a three-goal deficit from the first leg, the Blues went into the contest as massive underdogs at the Allianz Arena against German champions Bayern Munich.

They had to deal with a whole host of absent players due to injuries and suspensions, plus were facing one of the most in-form teams in the world in their backyard.

Frank Lampard’s side were on the wrong end of a 4-1 defeat against Bayern on the night, who progress with a 7-1 aggregate scoreline to the quarter-finals against Barcelona.

A young Chelsea side showed flashes of real excitement in attack and Tammy Abraham’s goal just before half-time was some consolation.

But centre-forward Robert Lewandowski scored a goal in each half for the hosts, as well as Ivan Perisic and Corentin Tolisso getting on the scoresheet.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media picked out Hudson-Odoi as a bright spark in a game that showed the improvement needed to compete with Europe’s best.

The 19-year-old winger was on the front foot during the entire game troubling the opposition with his pace and directness, perhaps sending a message to manager Lampard ahead of next season.

He also saw an excellent goal that he tucked into the bottom corner ruled out for offside, but he certainly didn’t look out of place against Bayern.
