The Champions League last-16 draw took place this morning, and Chelsea were back in the hat after coming second in a group they battled hard to get through. They were rewarded with a draw against German Champions Bayern Munich.

Of course, they were the team Chelsea beat in their own back yard to finally achieve European glory on that famous night in 2012. Fans instantly began to relay memories of the magical night, when Didier Drogba took his legendary status to a whole new level.

The Blues will not have been hoping for this outcome. Munich are an incredibly talented side and possess one of the world’s greatest no.9s in Robert Lewandowski. The game will certainly be a fascinating spectacle and one that fans of both sides will look forward to.

Finishing second in the group makes it almost inevitable that you will draw a top European team. However, RB Leipzig were one of the sides Chelsea could have drawn, but they will play London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the next round.

Bayern have not been at their best this season in the league and currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga. Some defensive frailties have derailed their domestic season, but they looked extremely strong in the group stages of the Champions League.

They won all six of their group games, scoring 24 goals in the process and conceding just five. This included a 7-2 win over fellow English side Tottenham. Chelsea will no doubt need to be at their best if they are to progress.
