Danny Murphy insisted that Mason Mount will be the main man when Chelsea face Porto in the Champions League, writing for the Daily Mail.
A European quarter final awaits the two sides on Wednesday evening, with the Blues needing to bounce back from a terrible domestic result last weekend.
Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten start to life in charge came to an end in dramatic fashion on Saturday, losing 5-2 to relegation threated West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge.
Porto are not the ideal opponents to be facing straight after such a devasting defeat, but a win tomorrow will certainly lift the mood inside Chelsea’s camp.
Murphy believed victory could be achieved if one Premier League star was firing on all cylinders.
When he asked which player to look out for, the former Liverpool midfielder said: “Mason Mount. Seems to turn up in every big game he plays and makes an impact.
“It says a lot that, for all the talent available to Chelsea and England, he is the first name on the team sheet when it matters.”
Mount began on the bench during the loss against West Brom, having featured in all three of England’s World Cup qualifying games.
Tuchel will unlikely take such caution when Chelsea travel to Seville in less than 24 hours’ time.
The 22-year-old has arguably been the Blues standout performer this campaign and his absence is felt whenever he isn’t in the starting XI.
