‘Needed at the Bridge’: Some Chelsea fans amazed by CL display of 21-year-old that Rudiger loves to watch

Atletico Madrid were involved in a thrilling Champions League match against Liverpool on Tuesday night – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter were left particularly impressed with the display of Joao Felix.

Felix, 21, was part of the Atletico side that were eventually beaten 3-2 at home to Liverpool yesterday.

La Liga champions Atletico were level at 2-2 after coming back from a two-goal deficit during the first half, but the game turned on its head when Antoine Griezmann was sent off early in the second period. Mohamed Salah eventually scored the winner for visitors Liverpool from the penalty spot in the Spanish capital.

There were so many star names on show in midweek, including £113million attacker Felix.

The 21-year-old’s Atletico career hasn’t quite lived up to expectation during its opening two years, but he’s shown glimpses and did assist a Griezmann goal against Liverpool.

Atletico talent Felix has Chelsea fans talking after Champions League classic

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media agreed that Felix is exactly the kind of player they’d love to see at Stamford Bridge in the future.

The Portuguese centre-forward worked as part of a two-man attack, something which did give Liverpool a few problems with their movement. It did become much more difficult when Atletico went down to 10 men, though.

His return of 19 goals and 10 assists in 82 appearances for Atletico isn’t at the level you’d expect of a £100million-plus player. However, he definitely brings a lot of excitement with the ball at his feet and is still so young.

Chelsea were linked with Felix back in 2018 when he was still at Benfica, with ex-Blues manager Maurizio Sarri supposedly keen on his signature at the time.

His career path has seen him end up in La Liga, but it doesn’t seem unimaginable to think the youngster could play in the Premier League at some stage in his career.

The skilful attacker is an individual with quick feet, clever dribbling and a low centre of gravity. For him, it’s about trying to find a consistency in his game and to improve his end product.

There are some in the Chelsea fanbase who are convinced he could be a hit at Stamford Bridge after watching him against Premier League opposition last night.

Rudiger has given seal of approval

Chelsea links to Felix do not exist right now, so it’s all hypothetically speaking at present. But, he’s the kind of forward player that may fit the mould of Thomas Tuchel’s Blues XI.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger previously raved about Felix earlier in 2021, admitting that he loves to watch the young talent play.

He’s got the attributes to mean he could easily compete for an attacking position alongside the likes of Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, Kai Havertz and Mason Mount.

However, Felix is still trying to justify the hype around him in an Atletico shirt. It’s time for him to step up now as he looks to succeed during his third season with the club.

For now, the Portuguese speedster needs to focus on becoming a talisman for Diego Simeone’s side. He’s still under contract at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium until 2026, so surely his future remains in Spain.
