Dani Carvajal has been ruled out for the remainder of the season and will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League tie with Chelsea next week.
Marca reported that Carvajal had picked up a fresh injury that forced him to be substituted against the Blues on Tuesday.
The Spanish right-back was unable to take part in training today, with his campaign coming to an early conclusion.
Carvajal has seriously struggled with fitness over the past 12 months, suffering from hamstring, muscle and medial ligament issues.
Zinedine Zidane is already sweating over the fitness of two important members of his defence.
Ferland Mendy and Sergio Ramos are both racing back to be available for the European tie at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Madrid face Osasuna this Saturday, but Zidane might not want to risk either of his defenders ahead of the Chelsea contest.
At present, Thomas Tuchel’s only absentee is Mateo Kovacic.
A hamstring problem picked up prior to the Porto match in the previous European round has kept the Croatian midfielder side-lined for now.
Tuchel did suggest in his press conference Kovacic could return for this weekend’s Premier League game against Fulham.
Like Zidane, the Chelsea coach may want to avoid further damage to one of his key players before Madrid comes to London.
