Chelsea supporters hailed Mateo Kovacic for another classy performance after he shone against Porto last night.

Kovacic cruised during the Blues 2-0 Champions League win yesterday, as is becoming second nature for the classy Croatian.

Here’s how Chelsea fans reacted to their £40m (BBC Sport) marvellous midfielder.

It was a professional display all round from Chelsea in the face of a stubborn Porto outfit.

In the middle of the park, Kovacic added that extra bit of momentum to get his side moving forward.

According to, the 26-year-old had 86 touches in the match, the third highest of any Chelsea player.

He also completed two key passes, one fewer than the entirety of his teammates mustered between them.

Throw in one tackle, interception and clearance, Kovacic’s evening was pretty complete.

Perhaps the most satisfying statistic is that he avoided picking up a yellow card, which would’ve suspended him for the second leg.

This is now a regular occurrence for the former Real Madrid man, as he continues to cement his importance into Thomas Tuchel’s framework.

His only absence under the German coach was away to Leeds United last month.

Other than that, Kovacic has featured in every game since Tuchel took over.

The Chelsea Chronicle View

I think if Mason Mount wasn’t around, Kovacic would get my POTY vote.

Although he doesn’t grab the goals or the headlines, his levels rarely dip below 7/10 and is just simply a joy to watch the way he simply glides past opponents as if they’re ghosts at their own footballing funeral.
