Thomas Tuchel has confirmed that the Chelsea trio of Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva and Hakim Ziyech are all available to play tomorrow in the Champions League against Malmo.

Chelsea are preparing ahead of Wednesday night’s Champions League group stage match at home to Swedish opposition Malmo.

The Blues go into the fixture with a win and a defeat in the group so far, which is why they’ll be desperate to get the defence of their European crown back on track.

Tuchel, who was asked about team news in his Tuesday press conference, has confirmed Christian Pulisic is the only Chelsea player unavailable tomorrow.

This means the trio of Rudiger, Silva and Ziyech are all available again after missing the weekend.

Rudiger was sidelined for the 1-0 win against Brentford on Saturday because of the injury he picked up during the internatonal break, but the key centre-back is available again. In addition, fellow centre-half Silva couldn’t play due to his late return from representing Brazil. Finally, Ziyech wasn’t on the bench against Brentford after Tuchel had mentioned headaches in the build up to Brentford.

Retaining Champions League huge ask for Chelsea

For Chelsea, they knew before a ball was kicked this season they’d face a massive obstacle trying to win the Champions League for a second year running.

However, it’s still early days in the competition.

The defeat to Juventus was a slight setback in their group, but they’ve got a chance to put it right with a double header against Malmo.

It’s historically difficult to retain the European crown, but Tuchel’s side suit knockout football if they can safely negotiate the group phase.

Silva and Rudiger absence highlighted strength in depth

It’s a big boost that senior defenders Silva and Rudiger can return to the back-three in midweek. Here is our predicted XI ahead of the Malmo clash.

There is no doubt now, though, that this is a deep Chelsea squad.

Trevoh Chalobah and Malang Sarr stepped into the XI against Brentford to keep a clean sheet in the 1-0 Premier League victory.

Tuchel has a handful of centre-backs he can rely upon at various parts of the season.
