Chelsea supporters were extremely glad to learn that Thomas Tuchel intended to start Antonio Rudiger against Porto later today.
Tuchel confirmed in his latest press conference that Rudiger would feature in the Champions League quarter final clash this evening.
This is in spite of his recent training ground altercation with Kepa Arrizabalaga, which has seemingly been squashed within the squad.
Blues fans were mightily reassured to learn their German defender would be back in action.
Rudiger sat out Chelsea’s recent rotten Premier League result at home to West Bromwich Albion.
He featured heavily for his national team over the international break and was not risked by Tuchel ahead of their European fixture.
His absence proved fatal, with West Brom running at 5-2 winners to inflict serious damage upon Chelsea’s pride.
In the aftermath of this shocking defeat, Kepa and Rudiger had a confrontation at Cobham, causing the latter to be sent away to defuse the situation.
Thankfully for the Blues’ sake, any negatives have apparently been swept aside, with all focus turning to the Porto game instead.
Any unwanted emotions must be left in England when the team travel to Sevilla.
Especially from Rudiger, who will likely play a big role if Chelsea are to overcome their Portuguese opponents.
The £29m (BBC Sport) signing has been excellent since Tuchel arrived and arguably one of the Blues best players under his stewardship.
A level head will need to be maintained tonight, particularly when facing the wily figure of Pepe in Porto’s defence.
