Chelsea wonderkid Cesare Casadei is now set to receive his first call up to the Italy national team.

That is according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

So, what is the latest on Cesare Casadei? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the 20-year-old is actually yet to even make his Chelsea debut following a £12m move from Inter Milan back in August 2022.

Casadei was loaned out to Reading in his first season at Stamford Bridge, and has since been handed to Leicester on loan for the 2023/24 campaign.

Nevertheless, the Italian is clearly doing well away from west London, as Roberto Mancini has been alerted to his talent.

Gazzetta dello Sport believe Casadei is on a list of young prospects who will be named in the Italy squad for October’s international break, along with Moise Kean, Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie and Nicolo Fagioli.

The Italy Under-21 international scored a late winner on his debut for Leicester in a 2-1 win over Cardiff, while he has also provided an assist in his four appearances for the Foxes so far.

Chelsea have a diamond in Cesare Casadei

It must be easy for Chelsea fans to forget about some of the many wonderkids Todd Boehly has signed since replacing Roman Abramovich, given the sheer volume at which they have been recruited.

However, we believe Casadei will live long in the memory when he eventually gets a chance at Chelsea.

The Ravenna-born maestro is a truly unique midfielder, who possesses striker-like traits just like Frank Lampard had in his locker.

Casadei even won the Golden Boot at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup earlier this summer, scoring seven goals in seven appearances from midfield, while also providing two assists.

The Italian also netted 26 goals in 66 games for Inter Milan’s Under-19 side, which is a fantastic return from midfield.

If Chelsea get Casadei’s development right, the Blues could have the new Lampard on their hands.
