Callum Hudson-Odoi was full of praise for Chelsea teammate Mason Mount after the 7-0 thumping of Norwich City on the weekend.
The Blues recorded a stunning win on Saturday, with academy graduates at the heart of the victory.
Mount’s stunning hat-trick means he’ll take the headlines. Also, fellow academy successes Hudson-Odoi and Reece James were on the scoresheet. Finally, in-form defender Ben Chilwell netted and there was an own goal from Max Aarons.
Mount, 22, put out a real statement by scoring his first goals of the season. They’ve come at a perfect time in response to losing both Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to respective injuries in midweek.
Hudson-Odoi has shared his delight for his Chelsea teammate:
“I’m buzzing for him. He’s a really good player, a top player. He works really hard day in, day out. It’s a nice feeling to see someone you’ve grown up with get the hat-trick, so I’m really delighted for him,” Hudson-Odoi said.
Hudson-Odoi and Mount vital right now
With Lukaku and Werner sidelined, it’s up to other attackers to step up to the mark.
It’s a massive boost for Blues manager Thomas Tuchel to watch the duo of Hudson-Odoi and Mount both contribute against Norwich.
The expectation now has to be for them to continue individual form into the remaining games before the international break.
There is no doubting the talent of the English duo, which is why they get so much love from the Chelsea fanbase.
Kai Havertz needs to join party
Unfortunately, Kai Havertz wasn’t one of the goalscorers in today’s 7-0 win.
It will feel like he’s the odd man out after being kept quiet by Norwich’s Grant Hanley.
However, the manager needs to stick with him in the upcoming fixtures.
