Arsenal legend Ian Wright has named Mason Mount as the best Chelsea young player this season and mentioned two other names who deserve praise.
The 2-0 win over Wolves at Stamford Bridge concluded Chelsea’s Premier League season as they achieved their Champions League qualification objective.
Lampard has had a fair share of young talents at his disposal but Wright believes Mount has been the outstanding one.
The Arsenal icon spoke in BBC’s MOTD: “Fifty-one games he has played this season.”
“I think you’ve got to mention that Tammy [Abraham] still scored 15 Premier League goals this season but Mason Mount has been the outstanding youngster that has kicked in.
“Pulisic has to get a mention as well, but what Mason Mount has done from the start of the season until now has to be recognised.
“I think he has been absolutely magnificent.”
While Alan Shearer spoke about Lampard’s achievements this season as he led Chelsea to a top-four finish despite odds were stacked against him at the start of the season.
“Unbelievable. Imagine if they win the FA Cup next weekend,” he said.
“Given what the circumstances were when he took over, they sold their best player, couldn’t sign any player, had to bring a lot of youngsters into the team and a lot of them have performed.”
Shearer also highlighted that Lampard had to rely on some of the older players, such as Olivier Giroud who has done well in the second half of the season.
“I don’t think they have a top-class goalkeeper either,” the former Newcastle United striker added.
“When you put all that into the mix, it could be an unbelievable season.”
