Chelsea announced the signing of highly-rated Kai Havertz on Friday night from Bayer Leverkusen and he’s received a warm welcome so far.
The Blues have signed the Germany international for an initial fee of £62million and there could be as much as £8million in add-ons, meaning he won’t go down as the club’s record signing (Telegraph).
Havertz is joining a Chelsea group where he’s played alongside teammates Timo Werner and Antonio Rudiger on the national stage, plus he’s not the only new face that will deal with settling at Stamford Bridge.
The 21-year-old is also joined by new signings Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell and Hakim Ziyech that have come straight into the first-team.
Havertz being the most expensive of the bunch appears to be the real marquee signing and there is real excitement about what this young team can achieve.
Chelsea fans can look forward to seeing a versatile player that most believe will slot into a number 10 playmaker role, something he did to great effect for German Bundesliga side Leverkusen.
But the left-footed ace can play on the right cutting onto his favoured foot and also in a false-nine, so it’s going to be intriguing to see how manager Frank Lampard fits all his attacking options into one XI.
Havertz has received some welcome message on Instagram from teammate Rudiger, as well as ex-Chelsea and Germany forward Andre Schurrle.
