Ben Chilwell has revealed that he was dreaming of playing alongside Thiago Silva before the duo both joined Chelsea last summer.

England left-back Chilwell, 24, completed a move to the Blues from Leicester City at the start of the season.

Meanwhile, Chelsea also managed to sign experienced 36-year-old centre-back Silva on a free transfer, who has been regarded as one of the world’s elite defenders in the past decade.

Chilwell has shared a story that he previously told Leicester teammates he would love to play alongside Silva, this was before the pair both completed a move to London.

They are now both key players in the backline for Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, who have an FA Cup final and Champions League final ahead of them in an exciting May.

“I was actually at Leicester when all the speculation of Thiago Silva started floating about,” Chilwell told SoccerAM

“I remember chatting to a few of the boys saying ‘Imagine if I go there and play with Thiago Silva that would be a dream’. He’s been one the best centre-backs in world football for so many years now.

“To come here, meet with him, train with him, learn off him, talk to him around the building, hear how he thinks I can improve my game, hear how he talks to me and the other boys in the matches, it’s just amazing, it really is.”

Chilwell won’t be the only Chelsea player in the squad to be in awe of teammate Silva.

If you look at everything Brazilian centre-half Silva has achieved in his career, he’s the perfect role model for others to follow in what is a fairly inexperienced dressing room.

As well as having a big influence on the pitch with his consistently strong performances, he must bring so much within the changing room as well.

There is no doubt that his calming influence is going to be massive going into the upcoming cup finals.
