Brighton manager Graham Potter believes Chelsea are going to be title challengers this season after massive investment in the transfer window.

The Blues are going to visit Brighton’s Amex Stadium on Monday, September 14, to kick-off their 2020/21 season.

Frank Lampard has ruled out three of his new signings; Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva for the trip, but Timo Werner and Kai Havertz would likely be available for their potential debut.

Brighton boss Potter is clearly aware of the qualities Lampard’s new recruits bring to the table, having already seen his team conceded a goal from Ziyech and Werner combination (with the help from Callum Hudson-Odoi) in their pre-season friendly last month.

Potter even said that Chelsea would aim for the Premier League podium, as he argued that Lampard had the quality for a top-four finish even before the new transfers.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference today, he told the media (via Brighton’s official website): “From the signings they have made, the intention is clear – they want to compete at the top.

“They had a really good season finishing fourth despite an [transfer] embargo and they also reached the FA Cup final while introducing young players.

“A club like Chelsea with a manager like Frank Lampard want to push on towards the title now and that’s the aim.

“They’ve got some really good players and I have no doubt they’ll be a really strong side this season.”
