Chelsea loanee Danny Drinkwater made just his second appearance of the season on Tuesday night – and some Burnley fans on Twitter ripped into him for his performance.
The 29-year-old midfielder left Stamford Bridge in the summer to join Burnley on a short-term loan deal until January.
He started on Tuesday at home to Manchester City in the Premier League, with his only previous Clarets appearance this campaign in a Carabao Cup game against Sunderland.

Sean Dyche’s side were beaten 4-1 at Turf Moor and were trailing 2-0 when Drinkwater was substituted off in the 59th minute.
The central midfielder was never going to be able to make a major impression on his first league start of the season, as his team had just 24 per cent possession in the contest.
He did at least got some minutes as he looks to get his season up and running, but where his future lies beyond January is unclear.

A selection of Burnley supporters on social media weren’t impressed with Drinkwater’s contribution in midweek.
It certainly seemed far to extreme some of the criticism aimed at him considering his complete lack of minutes and he could turn out to be a positive for Burnley if given more of a chance in December.

Drinkwater doesn’t have the qualities to break back into the fold at Chelsea, but is still playing for his own future during this month.
Frank Lampard’s squad is already stacked with top-class quality and the club should try sell the loanee in the New Year if they can.
It would be a major positive if he can earn a run of starts for Burnley, something which seems more likely during a busy period.

Formation all wrong. Tactics wrong. Wood isn’t a lone striker. Westwood is a massive loss. Drinkwater looks committed but rusty. Poor night overall but on we go #twitterclarets

Poor. Too unfit to make an impact past 15 min, and misplaced every other pass. But, did get stuck in in the early game. Glimpses but just not good enough.

Not great. Doesn’t bring anything much different to what Burnley already have.
