Carabao Cup Pointlessness, Hayes Contract, and Wilshere Links
Carabao Cup Pointlessness
Antonio Conte has joined fellow managers in saying that the Carabao Cup is “pointless.” Ahead of Chelsea’s fourth round fixture at home to Everton, the Italian has agreed with Jose Mourinho and Pep Guardiola in criticising the competition.
“Now, if I have to see in a selfish way, I can tell you I agree (that the Carabao Cup isn’t important).
“But, we have to try and find the best solution and I try to protect the teams who are playing in Europe. It is not simple.
“On the other hand, this type of game is important as it gives you the chance to see the improvement of the players who have not been playing. I don’t know. It is very difficult to say something about this.”
Chelsea Ladies manager Emma Hayes has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal at the club. After being linked to the vacant England job, Hayes has committed her future to the Blues.
“This is a place which I feel very much a part of and it is very dear in my heart,
“I couldn’t see myself anywhere else and it makes absolute sense to commit to the club going forward.”
Chelsea currently sit top of the Women’s Super League table, and look to retain their title after Hayes guided the side to glory last season.
Chelsea will make a move for midfielder Jack Wilshere, if he fails to sign a new contract at current club Arsenal, according to reports. Wilshere is one of a number of Arsenal players who could leave on free transfers in the summer, along with the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. The Gunners are expected to open contract negotiations with the Englishman in the coming weeks, but should the 25-year-old fail to extend his deal at the Emirates, the Blues are planning to bring him to Stamford Bridge. Manchester City are also linked with a move for the Arsenal player.
