Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has explained that new signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have made impressive impacts so far in training, with both proving they are serious attacking threats.

The Blues finished the 2019/20 campaign last week following the exit from the Champions League, but attention will soon shift to pre-season ahead of a quick turnaround.

Chelsea have already signed Werner and Ziyech ahead of the new season, so they have a big advantage that they’ve been able to train with the main group in the past couple of weeks to help them settle easier.

Werner, 24, is a highly-rated striker that has got supporters extremely excited about his Stamford Bridge arrival from RB Leipzig and the speedster should add more goals to the team.

Meanwhile, 27-year-old right-winger Ziyech should provide creativity and flair to Frank Lampard’s XI, especially now that Willian has departed and completed a move to Arsenal.

Senior Blues defender Azpilicueta has given a small insight into how the new duo have settled and looked behind the scenes.

“Both of them have shown their quality in training in these past couple of weeks,” Azpilicueta said, as quoted by the club’s official website.

“We have seen their potential offensively, the way they can create chances and the way they can score goals so they are big additions to the team.

“The quicker and easier they can adapt to the Premier League, the better it will be for everybody so it was good to have them with the group for a few weeks at the end of the season. They are already integrated and know everybody so it’s been a very good time for that and now we’re all looking forward to seeing them on the pitch.”

Despite the obvious frailties in defence last season for Chelsea, there is no doubt that manager Lampard set up an offensive team that at times were brilliant to watch and could pose a threat to most when in possession.

They have now added two seriously talented individuals in Werner and Ziyech on top of that, who could be a real brilliant addition to the Premier League if they can recapture their previous form.

It’s so crucial that they start positively when the new season kicks off and some extra time settling to life in England could help with that.
