Plenty of Chelsea supporters on social media were left in awe by Romelu Lukaku’s performance for Belgium yesterday evening.
Lukaku scored in his side’s 1-0 friendly fixture over Croatia last night, their final act before embarking upon the European Championships.
The 28-year-old notched up his 60th international goal; only three players in European football have managed it in fewer games.
Blues fans were basking in the centre-forward’s excellence, hooked by the fact their club have circled him as a top transfer priority.
Here’s how they reacted to Lukaku’s performance on Twitter:
Every time Lukaku’s name lights up the scoreboard, Chelsea followers will be hit with a wave of sadness.
Not because of his achievements, but the sense of what could have been.
It’s been seven years since the striker left Stamford Bridge to join Everton, a journey that’s taken him to Manchester and then Milan, all whilst becoming one of the game’s greatest no.9s.
Now, it’s more a feeling of what could be, with the Blues still invested in signing Lukaku this summer.
However, Chelsea’s approaches hit a hurdle when the Inter Milan attacker admitted to DevilTime that he was staying in Italy.
Of course, this doesn’t set his destination in stone.
But it certainly puts an obstacle in Roman Abramovich’s advances, who is said to be a massive instigator behind the Lukaku pursuit.
