Chelsea boss Frank Lampard praises attitude of Olivier Giroud

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has applauded the attitude of striker Olivier Giroud, who has had to settle with being on the fringes so far this season.

The France international was pivotal in firing the Blues to a top-four finish during last season, but the arrival of Timo Werner over the summer has seen his game time severely reduced and he also finds youngster Tammy Abraham above him in the pecking order.

Giroud has made five appearances this season across all competitions, but the only start was in the Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham back in September.

The 34-year-old is a proven centre-forward that has had a stunning career to date and offers the Blues something different with his physicality in attack, but he can’t seem to force his way into the XI at the moment.

RONALDO NEEDS TO STOP WHINING.

Lampard was asked about Giroud’s response to being dropped from the side and was extremely complimentary of his attitude:

“Yes, he has given a typically great response to train as well as possible and support the group. He is amazing around the group and that is just a fact with Oli and maybe not a fact with people all around the team. I can’t speak highly enough of him on that side,” Lampard said, as quoted by Football.London.

Giroud is going to be a bit-part player for Chelsea this season by the looks of it, but it goes to show the kind of quality that is reserve within the squad.

The left-footer was given an appearance off the bench in the midweek Champions League win over Rennes and the amount of fixtures should earn him some minutes on the pitch, but he needs to be productive whenever he gets the chance.
