The loss against London rivals Arsenal in a cup final was bad enough, but it also cost Chelsea some of their important players ahead of their trip to Munich.
Chelsea manager Frank Lampard could be without seven players for their second leg tie against Bayern, due to suspensions and injuries.
Out of those seven, three of them are definitely out for the game.
Jorginho has to serve a one-game suspension in the Champions League, along with Marcos Alonso who was shown a red card in the first leg.
The other one is Billy Gilmour who will not be back for a few months after undergoing knee surgery.
While Lampard said Cesar Azpilicueta, Christian Pulisic, and Pedro who suffered injuries in the cup final will be out for Bayern game.
“Christian looked bad. They’ll be out next week, for sure,” the manager told Chelsea’s official website.
Lampard also added that he wants to “protect” these players as he aims for a fresh start ahead of the Premier League season start in September.
Three players who missed the game against Arsenal; Willian, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek could still be fit for the trip, although the former may still miss the game due to his contract situation.
Having already lost 3-0 in the first leg at Stamford Bridge back in February, the odds are certainly stacked against Chelsea.
But with these suspensions and injuries, the task will be even more difficult.
