Christian Pulisic has been omitted from Chelsea’s match day squad on Wednesday night against Lille – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have been left puzzled by his absence.

The Blues are away to French side Lille in the Champions League group stages and will be aiming for three points.

Frank Lampard has named a strong XI (official Twitter), which includes a first European senior start for highly-rated defender Reece James.

But a selection of Chelsea supporters have noticed that Pulisic is completely missing from the 18-man squad.

The 21-year-old attacker is not involved on Wednesday night and there has been no indication in the build up that he’s unavailable through injury.

Chelsea have opted to go with Willian and Mason Mount on the flanks, while Callum Hudson-Odoi and Pedro are options from the bench.

Pulisic has not enjoyed a great start to life at Stamford Bridge and being overlooked for the squad in a Champions League tie is not a good sign, as it suggest he’s fallen far down the pecking order under Lampard.

The USA international has made just six senior appearances since his move to the Blues took place in the summer from Borussia Dortmund and he has three assists in that time, but is yet to score his first goal for the club.

He’s been an unused substitute in the last three consecutive Premier League matches and the European snub is the latest blow to him.

The skilful winger cost £58million (BBC) to bring to the club, but it seems he has plenty more work to do if he wants chances under Lampard.
