Chelsea suffered defeat at home to Arsenal on Wednesday night – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did at least find one positive from the individual display of Christian Pulisic.
The Blues were beaten 1-0 at Stamford Bridge against London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League fixture.
Emile Smith Rowe was the match-winner for Arsenal with his 16th minute goal, which was a simple tap in from close range after a pull back from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. However, that doesn’t tell half the story.
The goal was gifted to the visitors after a careless backwards pass from Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, which goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga could only parry into the path of Aubameyang in the build up to the goal.
It means that Thomas Tuchel’s side remain fourth in the league standings, and could yet need results in their final two games to secure Champions League qualification for next season.
After this weekend’s FA Cup final against Leicester City, they host the Foxes next Tuesday in the league.
Finally, they finish the league campaign with a trip to Aston Villa where they may need a result.
If thoughts were looking ahead to the Champions League final against Manchester City at the end of the month, they desperately need to be put on hold as there is still so much work to do domestically.
A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media believe Pulisic was at least trying against Arsenal.
The 22-year-old attacker had one goal ruled out for offside, but ultimately couldn’t provide the spark of magic his side needed.
