Chelsea fans credit one player after 5-2 defeat to West Brom

Chelsea suffered a shock defeat at home to West Brom on Saturday lunchtime in the Premier League – but some of the club’s fans on Twitter did at least name Mateo Kovacic as one rare positive.

Despite being unbeaten under manager Thomas Tuchel before today, the Blues were stunned 5-2 at Stamford Bridge by the visitors.

Christian Pulisic had put Chelsea ahead, but the game turned on its head when Thiago Silva was sent off for a second yellow card in the 29th minute.

Matheus Pereira remarkably but West Brom in front with two goals in first-half stoppage time, plus there were goals from Callum Robinson (two) and Mbaye Diagne in the second half, albeit substitute Mason Mount was also on the scoresheet for the hosts.

The result means that if results go against Chelsea in the next couple of days they could be sat sixth in the league standings.

It was a disaster at home to an opponent in the relegation places, and it’s also worth noting they drew 3-3 with them in the reverse fixture.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media wanted to give credit to their central midfielder Kovacic for his individual effort though.

The 26-year-old grafted away in the second period and showed some superb individual moments in possession, but ultimately it wasn’t enough for the 10-men hosts.
