Frank Lampard got one over on his old boss Jose Mourinho with a 2-1 victory for Chelsea against Spurs at Stamford Bridge.

Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the 15th minute with his powerful low shot, as the striker repaid the manager for promoting him to the starting line up.

Marcos Alonso was one of four changes that came into the XI and he added a second shortly after half-time with his arrowed effort into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Antonio Rudiger’s unfortunate own goal in the 89th minute set up a tense finish, but ultimately it was three points on the board at a vital stage of the season.

Chelsea desperately needed a win after some poor results recently and they stay fourth in the table, with a four-point cushion now opening up over fifth-placed Spurs.

It should give the squad a real boost going into Tuesday’s first leg of a Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich.
