Chelsea recorded a 1-0 away win against Ajax on Wednesday evening in the Champions League group stages – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out defender Fikayo Tomori for special praise following his performance.

The Blues produced an excellent performance on the road in Amsterdam in the European fixture and it’s a standout result in Frank Lampard’s short reign in charge so far.

Hosts Ajax had their chances and had a goal ruled out by VAR inside the first-half, but the West London outfit had their chances too and got a late winner.

Lampard’s substitutes combined to secure the win, as Christian Pulisic’s cross was fired in off the crossbar by Michy Batshuayi.

It was a brave performance from Chelsea, who have now won six games across all competitions in a row and have real momentum.

A selection of Blues supporters on social media picked out Tomori for his contribution and the academy graduate has been a huge success since his breakthrough into the first-team this season.

After losing possession on the halfway line in the early stages of the first-half, the 21-year-old recomposed himself and delivered a commanding display at the back.

He bailed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga out of a poor pass in the first-half with some superb one-on-one defending and was a real physical presence.

His passing is still an area that game can improve, but the youngster stood out for all the right reasons against last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax.
