Chelsea fans ecstatic with new Billy Gilmour contract

Billy Gilmour has signed a new long-term contract at Stamford Bridge – and some Chelsea fans on Twitter are buzzing with the news on Thursday evening.

The Blues confirmed on their official website that the midfielder has penned a four-year deal and committed his future to the club.

After making his first-team debut just before the international break, the 18-year-old has now been rewarded with a fresh contract.

Gilmour looks like he could be the next star to come out of the academy and is knocking on the door for senior minutes this season.

The Scotsman was originally at Rangers before moving to West London in 2017 and the move is now starting to pay off.

He’s a central midfielder that has dazzled at youth level for the last couple of seasons and many have tipped him to make a big impact at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard gave him his senior debut in the draw against Sheffield United, as he came on for the closing stages of the Premier League fixture.

The agreement of a new deal, accompanied by a senior debut, highlights he’s someone to watch out for and that he has a role to play this campaign.

He’s someone that is extremely confident in possession for a teenager and can dictate play from deep, which is why training around the likes of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic will be great for him.

With Lampard now at the helm, it appears to be the perfect time for young promising stars to stand up at Chelsea.
