Mason Mount started in Chelsea’s draw against Brighton on New Year’s Day – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter were not pleased with his contribution.

The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw against Brighton in the Premier League, but fortunately results elsewhere mean they stay fourth in the table and have a five-point cushion above fifth-placed Manchester United.

Cesar Azpilicueta opened the scoring in the 10th minute from close-range, but Brighton’s Alireza Jahanbakhsh netted a late bicycle kick in dramatic fashion to secure a point for the hosts.

Frank Lampard’s side were nowhere near their fluent best and it was clearly noticeable that it was a third game in just six days for several players.

Mount continued in the starting XI for Chelsea, albeit in a centra midfield role instead of as a left-winger.The 20-year-old struggled to have the same kind of impact on the game against Brighton as usual with some sloppy passes into the final third and a lack of end product.

He’s managed five goals and three assists in the league so far this campaign, which has made the playmaker a real favourite of Lampard.

But he looked off the pace against Brighton alongside some of his teammate and could do with a rest during this weekend’s FA Cup third round tie at home to Nottingham Forest.
