Chelsea got their first win under boss Frank Lampard on Saturday afternoon against Norwich City – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out midfielder Mateo Kovacic for his eye-catching performance.

Tammy Abraham put the visitors in front after just three minutes, as he rifled in his first senior goal for the club with an excellent finish from a Cesar Azpilicueta cross.

Chelsea’s defensive vulnerability was on show though during the match and Todd Cantrell equaliser just three minutes later for the hosts.

Another academy graduate in Mason Mount restored the Blues lead with a finish into the top corner, but Norwich went in level at half-time with in-form Teemu Pukki scoring after being slipped in behind the defence.

Lampard’s team were a little bit more sold in the second period and Abraham wrapped up three points with his finish from outside the box.

Kovacic was the assister for Abraham’s second and received a lot of praise on social media from Chelsea fans.

With N’Golo Kante ruled out against Norwich through injury, Kovacic was restored to the starting XI and he showed some quality moments on the ball.

The 25-year-old was extremely positive with driving runs in possession and an assist should do his confidence the world of good.

It was nowhere near a flawless display by Chelsea and the defensive problems need to be addressed, but they look dangerous going forward and Kovacic was extremely composed in the centre of the park.

Here are some Chelsea fans hailing Kovacic:
