Chelsea were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Manchester United on Wednesday night – but some of the club’s supporters picked out defender Marc Guehi as a major positive from the result.

Manager Frank Lampard rolled the dice with six changes to his side and they came out the wrong end of a close match, despite dominating the possession at home.

Marcus Rashford put United in front in the first-half with a penalty, but Chelsea equalised on the hour mark with Michy Batshuayi’s long-range effort that was driven low into the net.

But Rashford produced a remarkable 30-yard free-kick that dipped into the net and goalkeeper Willy Caballero stood little chance of saving it.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media did like what they saw from academy graduate Guehi, who was one of the young faces on the pitch.

The 19-year-old slotted into the defence alongside Kurt Zouma and the backline didn’t concede from open play.

Guehi was confident in possession at the back, as well as seeing out his defensive duties confidently.

The powerhouse centre-back captains Chelsea successfully at Under-23s level and is an England Under-21 international, but is now knocking on the door for more senior chances.

He made his first-team debut against Grimsby Town this season earlier in the cup, but his display against United proved he can mix it with top opposition and look assured.
