There were plenty of positives in how Lampard’s side were on the front foot and created plenty of opportunities, but ultimately individual errors let them down and they were given a clinical masterclass by their opponents.

Marcus Rashford’s penalty opened the scoring in the first-half after Kurt Zouma conceded the spot-kick, but Chelsea hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions to threaten the Manchester United goal.

Rashford, Anthony Martial and Daniel James all scored in the second-half to hit the Blues on the counter attack and make it a harsh scoreline.

Lampard named an intriguing starting XI that gave youth a chance, with academy graduate Mount make his first competitive game at senior level for the club.

A selection of Chelsea fans liked what they saw from Mount in the loss against Manchester United and feel he was a real standout for the visitors.

Mount certainly showed no signs of stage fright on the Premier League stage with real confidence in possession and he helped create chances for his teammates.

The English playmaker was used in the number 10 role and it didn’t quite happen for his side as an attacking unit, but he looked bright and could be a mainstay of Lampard’s team.
