Chelsea beat Brighton 3-1 at the Amex Stadium on Monday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out defender Kurt Zouma as a real positive from the match.

The Blues started the 2020/21 Premier League season with an away win against Brighton and picked up three points despite it not being a vintage performance.

Jorginho’s penalty put Chelsea ahead in the first-half, while goals from Reece James and Zouma wrapped up the victory.

Frank Lampard’s side host reigning champions Liverpool next at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and it’s a huge opportunity to try lay down an early marker to their rivals, as many expect the club to be competing for the league title this season.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media singled out Zouma for his colossus display at the back against Brighton.

Zouma, 25, scored the third goal of the game when his deflected shot went into the net, but he guided his effort nicely from a corner.

The French centre-back had plenty of defending to do on the night against Brighton, something he did superbly with blocks, interceptions and also being a real dominant presence in the air.

With experienced Brazilian joining this summer, it’s going to be interesting to see who Lampard picks as his preferred centre-back pairing moving forward.

Zouma appears to be first-choice in the pecking order as it stands and fans may get to see him alongside ex-PSG man Silva.
