Mount showcased the kind of work-rate and endeavour for England that he regularly has at Stamford Bridge, adding an extra bit of intent going forward and linking up intelligently with teammates around.

The 21-year-old is already popular with Blues manager Frank Lampard at club level and he continues to get minutes under Southgate.

He is an attacking midfielder that is a real creative threat in the final third and would have had picked up an assist if Bukayo Saka had finished better in front of goal .

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media liked what they saw from Mount in his international performance and feel he made a serious impact.
