Chelsea fans react as Nick Pope is linked with the club

Chelsea are reportedly considering a move for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope to replace the struggling Kepa Arrizabalaga – and some fans have expressed their excitement on Twitter.

90min claims that the Blues are becoming increasingly concerned by their current number one’s recent form and are interested in making a move for the England shot-stopper in the summer.

Pope, who earns £35,000-a-week at his current club (Spotrac), has made two senior appearances for the national side. He is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the league’s top goalkeepers.

The 27-year-old has brilliant reflexes, commands his area well and is a great shot-stopper. He is extremely important to a Burnley side that are currently sat 13th in the Premier League table.

Sean Dyche’s side have kept seven clean sheets so far this season. That is two more than Chelsea, but the Clarets have conceded six more goals than Frank Lampard’s side.

The Blues current goalkeeper, Kepa, has really struggled this season. He has the lowest save percentage in the Premier League and is beginning to become a real problem for Chelsea. The Spain international cost the club a world-record fee of £71m in 2018 (BBC) but has not developed in the way many had hoped.

He is making errors that he was not making last season and shots seem to be squirming through him too often. It could be a confidence issue, but it’s got to a point now where he is costing the club points on a regular basis. A replacement, or at least some competition, needs to be considered.
