Conor Gallagher made his Swansea debut at the weekend and continued where he left off with Charlton. He provided a sublime assist for fellow loan star Rhian Brewster. Some Chelsea fans loved what they saw from the young English midfielder.
Chelsea are suffering from a lack of cutting edge in midfield. The final pass is lacking at times and the Blues are suffering from it, most recently losing late on to Newcastle despite dominating the possession.
One man that is looking like he could provide that cutting edge in the future is Conor Gallagher. The loan star was recalled from his loan spell with Charlton so that he could join a top Championship side in Swansea City, who are fighting for promotion to the top-flight.
Some fans were worried about his opportunities at the Welsh club but he was straight into the starting lineup against Wigan. It then took him just 19 minutes to make an impact, producing a delightful reverse pass to send Brewster through to put the Swans 1-0 up.
Gallagher continued to impress throughout the game. His work-rate, positivity in possession and willingness to get stuck in make him an extremely effective midfielder. If he continues at his current rate, it will not be long before the youngster is making senior appearances for the Blues.
This is not a case of Chelsea fans getting over-excited about a young talent. Gallagher has taken everything in his stride and is only getting better. He could prove to be an invaluable player for the club in the future. Here is what some fans had to say on Twitter after his Swansea debut:
After I saw Conor Gallagher assist today I wished we kept him
