Chelsea were involved in a remarkable 4-4 draw at home to Ajax on Tuesday night – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter went wild about the performance of Reece James from the bench.

Despite trailing 4-1 to Ajax at one stage, the Blues may remarkably have felt disappointed to end up with just a point in the Champions League group stage fixture.

Frank Lampard’s team have provided major entertainment all season and that continued with another thriller.

Tammy Abraham was unfortunate to net an own goal after just two minutes, before Jorginho’s penalty just moments later levelled it up to kickstart the madness.

The Dutch side went into the break 3-1 up at half-time, as a goal from Quincy Promes and also a Kepa Arrizabalaga own goal gave them the advantage.

It seemed like the contest was over when Ajax scored a fourth through Donny van de Beek in the 55th minute, but the game quickly turned on its head.

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta pulled one goal back with a faint touch on the goal-line and then a controversial incident took place.

Ajax’s centre-back pairing Daley Blind and Joel Veltman were both sent off in the same passage of play for tackles, as they gave away another penalty and Jorginho stepped up to reduce the deficit further.

James scored an equaliser with a low powerful finish from a corner and he made quite the impact as an attacking threat when he was introduced as a half-time substitute.

The 19-year-old right-back is the next big star to come out of the academy and has to be pushing for more starts.

Lampard’s team did put the ball in the net through Azpilicueta to score what they thought was an equaliser, but VAR intervened to chalk the goal off and leave the teams level.
