Chelsea fans react to Thiago Silva’s comments about wanting to earn new contract

Thiago Silva has admitted that he’s hoping he can earn a new contract at Chelsea – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have responded by claiming he’s early done enough to earn an extended deal.

The Blues signed the 36-year-old in the summer transfer window on a one-year contract after he exited Paris Saint-Germain and they included the option of a further 12 months.

He’s an experienced centre-back that has achieved so much in the game, but he decided to tackle English football for the first time in his career and he’s made a colossal impact so far at Stamford Bridge.

The Brazilian already looks a leader within the Chelsea group and it’s easy to see why plenty of the younger players would look up to him.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has used him sensibly so far this campaign given his age, but he’s played eight games across all competitions so far and the impact he’s had on the team’s defence has been massive.

Silva is clearly loving life in London and has recently admitted he’d like to extend his contract beyond the summer:

“This is my first experience in the Premier League. I hope to continue to play well and that my contract will be renewed,” Silva has said, as quoted by L’Equipe.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media are totally onboard when it comes to extending Silva’s contract, as they realise what an important player he’s become at the club in such a short space of time.

Lampard’s short reign so far has continued to have the same issue of being vulnerable at the back, but it makes such a difference having a reliable commanding figure in the heart of the defence.
