Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has commented on the best position of Kai Havertz – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter are in full agreement with him.
Havertz, who earns £140,000-a-week (Spotrac), has had a difficult start to life at Stamford Bridge since his summer arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
The 21-year-old left-footer has been deployed all over the pitch so far with the Blues, including as a central forward, winger and attacking midfielder.
But German boss Tuchel has given his assessment on Havertz:
“I would say he’s in between a nine and a 10, something in between,” Tuchel said, as quoted by Football.London.
“He’s very comfortable in the box; he’s very comfortable in high positions, he’s very good at offensive headers, he has good timing to arrive in the box, good finishing, good composure.”
It sounds like Tuchel plans to use Havertz in one of his three attacking positions, perhaps even centrally as the leading forward.
He’s missed the last few games through injury, but made a late cameo in the midweek Champions League win over Atletico Madrid and is in the squad for this weekend’s league match with Manchester United.
The attacker has five goals and six assists so far in a Chelsea shirt, but fans have only seen a glimpse of his talent.
A selection of Blues fans on social media sound confident that the manager can get the best out of the Germany international and like the discussion around his position.
With certain players now thriving under him, everyone will be hoping that the ex-Leverkusen man can follow suit.
