Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has claimed that the upcoming fixture against Valencia is a “must not lose” match – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter have reacted negatively to his comments.

They are currently locked together on seven points alongside Ajax and Valencia in the group, but will progress to the knockout rounds with a game to spare due to their stronger head to head record.

Chelsea do face bottom of the table Lille in their final group game, but ideally would love to get the job done on Wednesday.

Lampard has given a cautious approach ahead of the Valencia tie and stressed it’s important not to lose.

“I think it is a must not lose game. We have made up ground we lost against Valencia. It puts us in a difficult position if we lose,” Lampard said, as quoted by Football.London.

A selection of Chelsea supporters on social media aren’t pleased with Lampard’s approach ahead of Valencia and are adamant it’s a must-win fixture.

The Blues have shown this season they are at their best on the front foot and they have to go to Spain searching for maximum points, but a point wouldn’t be the worst result in the world.

There should be the incentive of revenge going into the fixture, as they were beaten by Valencia 1-0 at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard has shown during his brief time in charge so far that he knows how to motivate his group of players and there should be no concern about mentality, despite the worry of a few fans.
