Chelsea face League Two side Morecambe this weekend in the FA Cup third round – and some of the club’s fans on Twitter have urged their manager Frank Lampard to give rising star Jude Soonsup-Bell his debut.
The Blues host Morecambe on Sunday afternoon and they’ll be hoping to go one step further in this season’s FA Cup, after finishing runners-up last year by losing to Arsenal at Wembley Stadium.
Lampard’s side have just one win in their previous six Premier League fixtures, but have a brief chance to turn attention elsewhere.
Chelsea need to make the most of playing against lower league opposition and an emphatic victory would at least lift confidence around the squad, while a shock upset defeat would be shattering.
A selection of Blues supporters on social media have rallied together to suggest that academy sensation Soonsup-Bell plays against Morecambe.
Soonsup-Bell has come through the youth ranks with Chelsea and has been grabbing attention for the way he’s performing in the Under-23s side, as his development continues at a rapid pace.
He’s scored nine goals in his last five Premier League 2 fixtures and is one of the young stars called up to train with the main senior group ahead of the FA Cup.
The 16-year-old, who celebrates his 17th birthday on Sunday, is a natural finisher that many are excited.
He’s yet to be involved in a match day squad with the first-team, but his chances look decent for Sunday and there are plenty that are keen to watch him make a debut.
