Chelsea managed to beat Hull City 2-1 away from home on Saturday evening in the FA Cup fourth round – and some of the club’s supporters on Twitter picked out midfielder Mateo Kovacic for immense praise for his display.

The Blues earned a 2-1 victory against the Championship opposition to progress to the next round, but there is still plenty of work to be done in front of goal.

Michy Batshuayi gave Frank Lampard’s team an early lead and Fikayo Tomori added another with his header in the second-half, which turned out to be the winner.

But Kamil Grosicki’s deflected free-kick gave Hull a lifeline late on and Chelsea shouldn’t have been in a position where they had a nervous end to the game.

It’s been an issue all season when it comes to converting chances and possession in games, something that was once again a frustrating problem at the weekend that needs fixing as soon as possible.

A selection of Chelsea fans felt that Kovacic was dominant in the centre of the park and he did catch the eye against Hull.

The 25-year-old slotted into a deeper midfield role and produced some exquisite passes at times all over the pitch.

He’s not been a regular starter in the last month, but he showed at the weekend that kind of form he has captured during this season and why he can be a real force when in the side.
