Chelsea forgotten man back at Stamford Bridge amid questions on his future

Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has posted a video of him training at Stamford Bridge but said he is unsure about his future.

A few days ago, the 27-year-old uploaded the video of his training session at Stamford Bridge on Instagram.

He explained the reason in an interview with PSV TV on Youtube, saying: “The boys who live nearby can train in the stadium. So this is ideal for me.

“You only have to train on your own, so it is a bit boring. But I also trained in a park and the field is a lot less there. It’s top notch here in Stamford Bridge.”

The Dutch midfielder has been struggling with sustained injuries over the years, including a cruciate ligament injury.

Chelsea signed him from Vitesse Arnhem in 2013 but has just made four first-team appearances for the Blues.

He spent a few seasons on loan at AC Milan, Stoke City and PSV Eindhoven. His last appearance was with the latter in May 2018.

Van Ginkel will be out of contract this summer and he admitted there has been no talks with the club on potential extension.

He said: “We haven’t had contact about that yet, but other things are of course more important now. I will hear it when the moment arrives.”

PSV were interested in bringing him in January but were reluctant to table an offer due to Van Ginkel’s fitness issue.

“I still have contact with people at PSV, but not about a possible winter period transfer,” he added.
