Chelsea loanee Blackman returns to club from Rotherham United for injury treatment
On-loan Chelsea goalkeeper Jamal Blackman has returned to the club for treatment on an ankle injury, said Rotherham United manager Paul Warne.
Having been the first-choice goalkeeper for the Championship side since the start of the season, the 27-year-old missed out on their 2-1 win over Preston on Saturday due to an ankle injury.
Initially, Rotherham boss Warne hoped that Blackman could rest and recover during the international break, but it doesn’t seem to be the case.
Blackman has headed back to Chelsea for a scan and treatment and Warne admitted he doesn’t know when the loanee will return to the club.
“He is having his treatment at Chelsea, it has been teetering along for a few weeks now, ever since before the [Nottingham] Forest game,” Warne told the media (via the Star).
“We were hoping that we were going to get to the international break and allow him time to rest it. After Wednesday (against Luton) it wasn’t the case.
“He will have a scan and he is having it injected and everything.
” I honestly don’t know until he gets his scan.”
Blackman, who joined Rotherham on a season-long loan, has made 10 Championship appearances so far, conceding 11 goals and keeping two clean sheets.
He joined the Blues as an Under-13 back in 2006 and has had a quite extensive loan experiences for eight different clubs, including Middlesbrough, Leeds United, Vitesse Arnhem and Bristol City.
