Chelsea predicted XI Arsenal: 24-year-old recalled, £58m man misses out, new CF combo

Saving the best until last, Chelsea take on Arsenal this Sunday to round off what is hopefully another wonderful weekend of Premier League drama.

Buckle in, because this London clash could be all-consuming.

Thomas Tuchel’s men have started the season in sizzling style, snatching the UEFA Super Cup last Wednesday before crushing Crystal Palace at home in the league.

All whilst Romelu Lukaku’s prominent figure has loomed large in the distance.

Arsenal meanwhile simply cannot catch a break.

After failing to win any of their pre-season friendlies, the Gunners might have welcomed a trip to newly-promoted Brentford on opening night.

As it transpired, Mikel Arteta’s side were stung badly by the Bees and they stumbled away from Griffin Park extremely sore.

Chelsea will hope to add fresh venom to the Gunners’ wounds, as they travel to the Emirates in 48 hours’ time.

Here is our predicted Blues XI:

Defence

We should just copy and paste these next words for the foreseeable future: Edouard Mendy remains in goal.

Going forward is where Tuchel’s team sheet becomes more complex.

Despite the grand occasion, anticipate Trevoh Chalobah to once again get the nod in defence.

The last week has been a whirlwind for the academy star, who is reportedly about to be awarded a new contract by his employers.

Beside him, the centurion Thiago Silva, who will be making his first competitive start of the term.

Antonio Rudiger keeps his place from the Palace victory.

Midfield

Cesar Azpilicueta has played a lot of his football under Tuchel at centre-back, but more recently, the captain can be found marauding down the right at wing-back.

Expect the Spanish skipper to be stationed there again, with Ben Chilwell returning on the opposite flank.

Marcos Alonso’s excellent form has kept the 24-year-old at arm’s length.

However, Arsenal’s squad is a lot smaller in height and speedier than Palace’s, which plays more into Chilwell’s hands than it does Alonso’s.

Thanks to the uncertainties regarding N’Golo Kante’s fitness, Mateo Kovacic and Jorginho should get the nod in midfield.

Attack

This is the announcement every Chelsea fan has been waiting for.

Mason Mount and Timo Werner are just sideshows to the main event.

Lukaku is the top billing, not just for the Blues, but for fantasy football enthusiasts up and down the country.

Christian Pulisic will unfortunately not get to bask in the Belgian’s second debut, as the £58m (BBC) American misses out through injury.

Chelsea predicted XI vs Arsenal: Mendy; Chalobah, Silva, Rudiger; Azpilicueta, Jorginho, Kovacic, Chilwell; Werner, Lukaku, Mount
