New Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell said he will be ready to start in Saturday’s Premier League fixture against West Brom after his brilliant cameo on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old made his debut from the bench in the big win over Barnsley.
It was certainly not a bad 25-minute cameo for someone who had not stepped on the pitch for a competitive game for almost three months due to an Achilles injury.
Chilwell also bagged an assist with a pinpoint cross for Olivier Giroud, which did not surprise him since he is aware of the France international’s quality in the air.
He told Chelsea’s official website: “I’ve seen Oli score goals like that for years in the Premier League, so I knew if I got in a good cross he would be on the end of it.
“He’s done it for years in the Premier League and even in training, he’s exactly the same.
“So I just looked to swing in a good ball into the right area and he’d be there.”
The England international argued that, with the quality of the strikers at Chelsea, he will be able to have more of those assists.
“We’ve got some really good strikers at this club,” he added.
“So as long as we provide them with good service, then I’m sure there will be many more goals like that over the season.”
The fans would certainly hope to see their new left-back back in action for the weekend’s trip to West Brom.
Asked whether he is ready to start in the next game, Chilwell said: “Of course, I’d like to say that I’m ready for 90 minutes but it’s up to the manager to choose his team.
“It’s a competitive squad this season and everyone trains hard, so I’m sure the gaffer will pick what he feels is the strongest team for the weekend.”
