Brentford expanded their forms of respect for Edouard Mendy after they praised the Chelsea goalkeeper’s weekend heroics on their TikTok channel.

Had the Senegal international not been tip-top form, the Bees would’ve walked away from their own stadium as Premier League victors.

Marvelous Mendy

Thrice the 29-year-old was literally on hand – and once on head – to prevent Thomas Frank’s men from finding a route to goal.

Another clean sheet for the ‘keeper ensured Ben Chilwell’s first-half strike was the difference between the two sides.

Although Frank later described Chelsea’s win as ‘lucky’, the club’s social media admin took defeat slightly more graciously.

They put together a compilation of Mendy’s second-half saves on their TikTok page, using the caption ‘Mendy was unbeatable’.

They also mentioned in the comments: ‘Fair play Chelsea, you have a class keeper’.

Admiration was awarded where admiration was due.

Brentford battering the Blues

Brentford should be proud of their efforts, despite the negative scoreline.

Not many put Chelsea under so much pressure for such a sustained period of time.

A cycle of set-pieces and long throw-ins almost paid dividends, if it weren’t for Mendy’s mighty frame.

Bryan Mbeumo could’ve sealed the tie twice, but ended up hitting the post on both occasions.

Trevoh Chalobah booted a goal-bound effort off the line that almost drew the home team level.

But the Blues held onto three points and their grip on the league’s summit.

Liverpool’s empathic 5-0 demolition of Watford and Manchester City’s customary bashing of Burnley mean only two points separate the front three.

A race for the title that looks like it will go the distance.
