Tottenham’s 21-year-old Ryan Sessegnon has said that he’s really impressed this season by Chelsea duo Reece James and Ben Chilwell.

England internationals James and Chilwell are two of the most in-form defenders across Europe.

James, 21, is Chelsea’s right wing-back that provides serious power and accuracy. He’s now up to five goals and five assists in 14 games this season after scoring in his team’s 4-0 win over Juventus last night. Declan Rice and Tammy Abraham were among those to praise him on Tuesday.

Unfortunately, 24-year-old left wing-back Chilwell was forced off injured in the Champions League victory against Juventus. Blues fans are nervously waiting for an update on him, but he’s similarly been in brilliant form this campaign.

£25million Spurs man Sessegnon, who can play as a wing-back, suggests that he’s looking at Chelsea duo James and Chilwell as the example to follow.

“They’re doing very well offensively and defensively for Chelsea this season. At every opportunity, they’re arriving in the box, scoring goals, getting assists. That’s something I like to do as well. Credit to them, they’re playing very well at the moment in a similar system to we’re playing where for me I can get in the box, score and create chances,” Sessegnon said.

Greatest Chelsea threats

If you are an opponent preparing to face Chelsea, trying to nullify their wing-backs has to be one of the first things on the agenda.

James, along with teammate Chilwell, are constantly offering width high up the pitch. It’s difficult to consider them as defenders because they attack with such quality, too.

Chelsea can sit in deep as a five if they are ever under pressure, but most of the time their wing-backs are thinking offensively.

Thankfully, Marcos Alonso is a great option Chelsea have available to them if Chilwell’s injury keeps him out for any length of time. The Spaniard is equally as strong providing an attacking threat around the penalty box.

Conte at Tottenham

Everything is going so well at Chelsea right now that fans can almost overlook the fact ex-manager Antonio Conte is now in charge at great rivals Spurs.

He was loved by so many during his time at Stamford Bridge. However, Thomas Tuchel is the new man at the Chelsea helm winning the hearts of the Blues fanbase.

Conte’s preferred 3-4-3 formation may really bring Sessegnon into the picture.
