Davide Zappacosta has posted a farewell message on Instagram after leaving Chelsea permanently on Tuesday to join Atalanta, which prompted an intriguing six-word response from Danny Drinkwater.
Zappacosta, who joined the Blues back in 2017, has now ended a four-year spell at Stamford Bridge.
It’s been an extremely tough period for the Italian defender to play regularly, making 52 senior appearances for Chelsea during that time.
The 29-year-old right-back has been on back-to-back loan spells in the last two years, so for him he may now find a permanent home in Italy.
He’s made a move to Serie A club Atalanta for around £8.5million (€10million).
The full-back has sent a message on social media about his departure and there is a noticeable response from a Chelsea-owned forgotten player. Drinkwater said “good to see you smiling bro” in response to Zappacosta’s transfer to Italy.

Drinkwater message suggests there are plenty of unhappy faces at Chelsea
Zappacosta, along with numerous players, were back in pre-season wth Chelsea over the summer.
It’s certainly worth mentioning that players like the Italian have to return each summer knowing that their chances of a breakthrough at Stamford Bridge are slim.
Zappacosta has every right to be delighted with a switch to Atalanta, who are a very strong outfit nowadays. He leaves London with best wishes from Blues supporters.
There are several other players on the books at Chelsea that need a way out before the summer window shuts because they don’t want to be stuck on the fringes for an entire year.
Chelsea have a great harmony and atmosphere within their main group of players, which is why it’s difficult for individuals on the edges.
